Penicuik Weather - Marine Vessel Tracking

The site contributes marine tracking information to MarineTraffic who consolidate vessel position information and provide services to the public and operators.

The system is based on Automatic Identification System (AIS) data, which since 2004 was a mandatory requirement for larger vessels, which typically includes position, speed and course, with other static information like the vessel’s name, dimensions and in many cases destination. Many small vessels also now carry the equipment to report the data. The system uses radio at frequencies 161.975 MHz and 162.025 MHz (the data is duplicated on both frequencies to provide redundancy).

You can grab the map and scroll in any direction to see other map areas and routes. If you click the filter icon, a key will appear showing vessel types used within the map.
